The Double: How Jesse Eisenberg acted opposite himself
The Double: How Jesse Eisenberg acted opposite himself

An exclusive featurette from behind the scenes of Richard Ayoade’s mind-bending new comedy reveals how they got two actors for the price of one.

Watch it above.

Jesse Eisenberg plays two roles in ‘The Double’, one is the timid milquetoast Simon James, and the other is his doppelgänger James Simon, the brash bully who invades his life.

Both characters often appear on screen together, which led to some creative solutions in the film-making process from director Richard Ayoade.

“What’s hard is that Jesse is playing one part, then we pick a take on set,” explains the writer-director, “Then [Jesse] hears that chosen take back in his ear through an earpiece.”

“The motorised camera then does the exact same movement again, as he plays the other character.”
